The story takes place during the sweltering month of August when high schoolers were enjoying their summer vacation with plenty of plans. At Ikebukuro station, a new train called the Manabi Express arrived, ready to carry 135 passengers. The train was built in honor of the former chairman of East Japan Railway Company and featured advanced technology. Its vibrant orange and blue exterior caught the attention of many. As the train departed from the station, a sudden blue light engulfed it, causing the train to enter a mysterious loop. Three friends who were traveling together found themselves in a different compartment from where they originally boarded. As they ventured through the train, they encountered an unknown man who appeared on the TV screen, explaining the situation and revealing that they must play through various challenges in each compartment to save another passenger. The story follows these three groups of friends as they navigate through the train's challenges and try to figure out how to escape the loop.
